In Don Valley East, we are fortunate to have a number of seniors’ groups that work hard to provide services that encourage and assist seniors to lead healthy and active lifestyles. Our government recognizes that this type of support is essential to continue to help strengthen communities across Ontario.
The Seniors Community Grant Program is designed to give seniors opportunity to participate in their communities by providing funding for projects that encourage greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement. In the last two years, the program has supported 544 projects and helped approximately 116,000 seniors province-wide.
In 2015, seven agencies in the Don Valley East Community received approximately $34,000. The recipients include the Horizon Seniors Club, Korean Dance Studies Society of Canada, AWIC Community and Social Services, Iranian Women’s Organization of Ontario, Green Pine Senior Association, Mugungwha Homes and Xile Nianhua Senior Centre. We will continue to invest in these types of programs and look for ways for them to share best practices and services with one another.
The Seniors Community Grant Program is once again accepting applications for 2016. The application process is open until March 4, 2016.
