Today on October 15th, workers across the province are protesting Doug Ford’s plan to scrap the minimum wage increase to $15 and cut workplace benefits like two paid sick days.
Getting rid of the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act brought in under the previous Liberal government will mean less protections for workers, including the elimination of equal pay for equal work, fairer scheduling rules including pay for shifts cancelled on short notice, a minimum of three weeks vacation after five years with the same employer, and ten personal emergency leave days for all employees.
These reforms modernized Ontario’s labour laws and contributed to building a stronger economy that benefits everyone, not just those at the top.
This Conservative Government needs to listen to the people who have built this province and protect workers, instead of turning their backs on them.
